Judge denies F. Glenn Miller Jr.’s request for new trial
Sentencing for the 74-year-old convicted killer of three people outside Overland Park Jewish facilities is scheduled for this afternoon in Johnson County.
A jury recommended a death sentence for F. Glenn Miller Jr. after finding him guilty in September of capital murder for the April 13, 2014, shooting deaths of Terri LaManno, William Corporon and Reat Underwood.
LaManno, 53, of Kansas City, was shot to death outside Village Shalom care center where she was visiting her mother.
Corporon, 69, and Underwood, his 14-year-old grandson, were killed outside the Jewish Community Center.
Miller, also know as Frazier Glenn Cross Jr., admitted to the killings. He said he had intended to kill as many Jewish people as he could. However, none of those killed was Jewish.
About a dozen family members of the victims are expected to speak at the sentencing hearing in Johnson County District Court.
District Judge Kelly Ryan has the option of following the jury’s death sentence recommendation or sentencing Miller to life in prison without parole.
On Tuesday morning, Ryan denied Miller’s request for a new trial.
