Stepdaughter, man she hired to kill Shawnee man sent to prison for attempted murder

Two people convicted of trying to beat a 69-year-old Shawnee man to death last year were sentenced Thursday to prison.

A Johnson County judge sent the victim’s 23-year-old stepdaughter, Nicole Rose Carter, to prison for 12 years and 11 months. The judge sentenced Adam Hersh, 24, of Kansas City, to 19 years and six months. Carter and her mother recruited Hersh to carry out the attack with a baseball bat.

Carter and Hersh had pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Previously, a jury convicted Denise Davey, Carter’s mother and wife of the victim, on the same charges. She was sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Hersh’s sister, Whitney Hersh, previously was sentenced to six years.
