Clay County deputy hurt during pursuit
A Clay County deputy received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after his patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle fleeing Kansas City police.
The collision occurred around 12:40 p.m. at Northeast Parvin and Chaumiere roads. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital after complaining about slight neck and back injuries, said Lt. Will Akin with the Clay County Sheriff’s office.
The pursuit began after officers tried to pull over the vehicle. During the chase, the suspect vehicle drove through several yards, plowed through a fence and almost struck a house, Akin said. Police arrested one suspect.
Details of why officers sought to pull over the driver were not immediately available.
The injured deputy was a school resource officer and he was making sure that the schools in that general area of the pursuit were either on lock down or following safety procedures, he said.
