Death in KC’s Northeast area investigated as a homicide

Kansas City homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who was fatally injured late Friday afternoon near Askew and Independence avenues. He was found unconscious on the sidewalk with a traumatic injury to his torso.

Kansas City homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man who was fatally injured Friday afternoon in the Northeast area.

Officers were called just before 5 p.m. Friday to the area of Askew and Independence avenues and found the man unconscious on the sidewalk.

Police said the man had suffered a traumatic injury to his torso. Officers performed CPR until a Fire Department ambulance crew arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
