Lee’s Summit police investigating homicide after body found in vehicle

Lee’s Summit police are now calling a dead body discovered in a vehicle early Sunday a homicide.

A Lee’s Summit officer attempted to stop a vehicle for suspicion of drunken driving at 1:15 a.m. The driver pulled into an apartment parking lot in the 500 block of Southeast Second Street and then drove onto a grassy area. Two males got out of the vehicle and ran. The officer lost sight of them but discovered a body in the passenger seat of the abandoned vehicle.

The victim was a woman in her 40s. Police did not immediately release her name pending notification of extended family.

Police searched the area using canine teams with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information is asked to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.
