Pedestrian is struck and killed in Kansas City

A man was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday while walking near an east Kansas City highway junction, police said.

The incident was reported to police about 6:30 p.m. and officers found the man mortally wounded near East Winner Road and Interstate 435.

The vehicle that struck the man had left the scene and police did not have a good description of it.

Police believed the victim had been trying to cross Winner Road when he was hit by an eastbound car. As he was laying in the street after that, an orange or red truck pulling a yellow trailer hit him. Both drivers left the scene before police arrived.

Police did not immediately release the man’s name.

In a separate incident earlier on Friday, a pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 70 by a driver who left the scene.

The investigation into both incidents continued.
