Three men reportedly locked in KC apartment during police standoff
Three men reportedly barricaded themselves in the bedroom of an apartment Friday night as police surrounded the building in the 3400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
According to police radio traffic, a fourth man exited the apartment shortly after 10 p.m. and told police the other men had barricaded a bedroom door with a mattress and a dresser. The man also said he padlocked the bedroom door from the outside, trapping the other men inside the room. He initially told police they were unarmed but later said two of the men may have handguns.
The bizarre standoff began shortly before 8 p.m. when police sought a suspect who refused to come out, according to a tweet from Police Chief Darryl Forté. Police threw stun grenades inside the apartment after negotiators attempted to talk the man into surrendering. They also sent a robot inside. Officers next pumped pepper gas into the apartment.
The incident was ongoing at 11:30 p.m.
