Package thrown into Lansing prison leads to no contest plea

A 19-year-old man who threw a package full of cellphones and tobacco into the Lansing Correctional Facility has pleaded no contest to attempting to traffic in contraband.

Desean Brasfield of St. Louis was arrested after prison staff saw him throw a package over the prison fence last June, according to Leavenworth County prosecutors.

The package contained cellphones, cellphone chargers and tobacco covered with bubble wrap. Prosecutors said all those items are considered illegal contraband for inmates.

Sentencing for Brasfield is scheduled for Dec. 9.
