School bus, strikes pedestrian in Independence
A pedestrian was injured early Friday when a school bus struck him near the Metropolitan Community College-Blue River campus in Independence.
The accident was reported at Missouri 78 and South Swope Drive about 7:45 a.m. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Three students were slightly injured and were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
According to initial reports, the bus was southbound on Swope Drive, when it turned east on Missouri 78 at the traffic signal and struck the pedestrian as he was crossing the street. Police have not determine if the bus driver saw the man walking.
The accident remains under investigation.
