Charges dropped in traffic stop incident that injured a KC police officer
Jackson County prosecutors have dropped charges against a Kansas City woman they had accused of injuring a police officer during a Nov. 8 traffic stop in the 2500 block of Montgall Avenue.
Jailers released Mikayla McNeal, 21, on Friday after she spent six days locked up.
Investigators had linked McNeal to the incident through a temporary license tag on a silver Nissan that hit a police officer as its driver fled a traffic stop, allegedly with a large amount of marijuana in the car.
Someone had stolen the temporary tag after McNeal finished using it, said her mother, LaDonna McNeal.
“She should never have been charged without proper investigation,” LaDonna McNeal said Monday. “She was at home asleep when the incident occurred and she doesn’t own a silver car at all.”
Four other people were in the home with her daughter when the late-night traffic stop happened, her mother said.
