Overland Park police officer injured by fleeing car
An Overland Park police officer was injured Sunday afternoon when a fleeing theft suspect struck him with a car.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital and released. The suspect was arrested a few minutes later by Leawood police.
The incident occurred about 1:40 p.m. Sunday when officers were answering a call about a theft in progress at a business in the 11700 block of Metcalf Avenue.
An officer saw the suspect and chased him on foot to a nearby car. As the officer attempted to arrest the suspect, the suspect got into the car, which struck the officer as it left the scene.
