Driver dies after crash in Overland Park
A motorist died after a collision with a stolen car that ran a red light Friday morning in Overland Park.
The driver of the stolen car fled on foot after the 8 a.m. crash at 123rd Street and Metcalf Avenue. Police arrested him a few minutes later.
According to police, the stolen car ran a red light and hit the side of another vehicle, critically injuring its driver. The driver died later at a hospital.
Two other vehicles were struck after the initial collision, and one other driver suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the stolen car fled from Leawood police earlier in the morning after someone had reported a possibly intoxicated driver. But police did not chase the vehicle.
After the wreck, the driver ran to a nearby apartment complex and entered an unlocked apartment. He left after the apartment occupant found him hiding in a bedroom, according to police.
Police arrested him nearby.
