Police have identified a 26-year-old man fatally shot at gas station late Wednesday as Bobby L. Mullins II of Independence.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. at the Shell station at 9040 E. U.S. 40, in the southwestern part of Independence.

Police called to a shooting found Mullins dead in the gas station parking lot. Witnesses told them the shooter fled on foot. Investigators canvassed the area and found some evidence but no suspect, police said.

Surveillance video from the gas station shows two people police want to interview. They arrived in a pickup truck. A woman was driving and a man was in the passenger seat. Police describe the truck as a late 1990s or early 2000s extended cab Chevy Z71. It was either dark blue or black, possibly with Missouri plates.

Police ask that anyone with information about the two people, the truck or the homicide to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Independence police investigations unit at 816-325-7330.
