$12,000 reward is offered to solve shooting of dog in Overland Park

A reward of $12,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the shooting of an Overland Park therapy dog.

Meeko, an 8-year-old golden retriever/cocker spaniel mix, was shot in the face Tuesday during the burglary of a home in the 6600 block of West 132nd Terrace.

He suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Meeko’s owner came home Tuesday afternoon and found the home ransacked and the pet injured.

The certified therapy dog works with residents of a senior living center, said his owner, who asked that his name not be used.

The homeowner said friends, neighbors and even some strangers have donated to the $10,000 that has been added to a $2,000 reward offered through the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline.

Anyone with information is asked to call the hotline at 816-474-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
