Reward grows to $5,000 for information in Northland shooting
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in the July 7 shooting of a Kansas City, North, mother and her teenage daughter.
Police continued investigating tips Wednesday in the shooting by a man carrying a shotgun in the 10300 block of North Virginia Avenue.
The 14-year-old daughter remained hospitalized Wednesday.
An anonymous donor recently contributed $2,000 to the reward fund.
The shooting occurred moments after police learned that a gunman was in the neighborhood. A homeowner told police he confronted an armed intruder who had walked into his house through an open garage door. The homeowner and his wife, who had just walked their dogs, asked the man why he was inside their home. He said he was looking for someone else.
After the intruder left, the homeowner called police. The double shooting was reported a short time later.
Officers found the 46-year-old victim kneeling in her driveway holding her stomach. She was later released from the hospital.
They found the wounded 14-year-old sprawled on the family living room floor. A younger daughter was found in her bedroom unharmed.
Authorities searched the area for about four hours before determining the gunman had left.
Investigators found the shotgun used in the shooting in a nearby home’s basement.
