Dog shot during Overland Park home burglary is expected to recover

An Overland Park homeowner’s dog was reportedly shot in the face during a burglary Tuesday afternoon.

Police were called about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 6600 block of West 132nd Terrace after the homeowner came home and found that his house had been ransacked. He also found his dog injured. The dog was taken to an animal hospital.

The injured animal was a therapy dog that visits area nursing homes and provides comfort to residents. Overland Park police said Tuesday night that the dog was out of surgery expected to recover.

A suspect was seen several hours earlier driving a red, four-door car with Missouri license plates. It was last seen driving east on 132nd Terrace.
