Police identify man killed in south Kansas City shooting

Police have identified a 23-year-old man shot to death Sunday at a south Kansas City apartment as Anthony Johnson.

Officers were called to the apartment complex in the 8400 block of Hillcrest Road at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in response to shots being fired. They were unable to find a victim and left a short time later.

They received another call just after 8 p.m. from family members who found Johnson’s body in the apartment. This time the officers went to the 8300 block of Hillcrest Road.

A large group of people gathered outside directed police to the apartment.
