A south Kansas City resident fired gunshots early Friday at an intruder who was yelling “KCPD” as he kicked in the homeowner’s front door.

The incident happened just after 4 a.m. in the 11400 block of Corrington Avenue. The victim told police he heard the front window of his house shatter and went to investigate when he saw the intruder. The resident opened the front door but quickly closed it when the intruder pointed a handgun at him.

The homeowner retrieved his handgun and fired several shots as the intruder kicked through the front door. The intruder managed to reach the threshold but turned and fled.

The homeowner told police that he wasn’t sure if the intruder was hit by a bullet.

Police searched the area but did not find the intruder.
