A federal child pornography investigation that started in Virginia has resulted in the arrest of a Warrensburg, Mo., man for allegedly having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl in Olathe.

Thomas Joshua Johnson, 22, was charged Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City with traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

The investigation that led to the charge began in February when federal agents in Virginia began monitoring a child pornography website, according to court documents.

They found that someone with the user name tj5563 had accessed several images of child pornography on the site. The IP address for that user was traced to a home in Warrensburg, according to the documents.

After further investigation, a search warrant was served Sept. 25.

An examination of Johnson’s cellphone revealed explicit pictures of a minor. She was later identified as a 13-year-old girl who lived in another state but who had visited relatives in Olathe, the documents say.

She told investigators that she and Johnson had been communicating online and he had traveled to meet her in person several times in May, according to the documents.
