Pedestrian is struck and killed by vehicle in Kansas City parking lot
A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night in an apartment parking lot in northeast Kansas City, police said.
The incident was reported just after 7:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Maple Boulevard, just north of Independence Avenue.
Witnesses told police they found the victim lying in the parking lot.
The driver of a vehicle had pulled into a parking space on the north end of the parking lot.
The driver told the officer that as he backed out of the parking space, he sharply turned and hit “something” but did not know what it was.
He pulled forward and ran over the object a second time. The driver got out to see what he struck and saw the pedestrian lying in the parking lot.
He then called for help. The pedestrian was dead at the scene, police said.
The victim’s name has not been released. The incident remains under investigation.
