NW Missouri man to stand trial in wife’s killing

The trial for a 28-year-old northwest Missouri man charged in the shooting death of his wife is set to begin March 21, 2016, in Liberty.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Circuit Judge Larry Harman set the trial date for Adam Baker, of Cameron.

He’s charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Feb. 25 death of Holly Baker, 26.

The probable cause statement says Adam Baker told officers he and his wife were fighting and she picked up a gun.

Baker claimed he took the gun away from his wife and later shot her.

The murder charge carries a possible sentence of between 10 and 30 years or life in prison.

The defense succeeded in obtaining a change of venue that moved the case to Liberty.
