Heroin smuggler sentenced to 46 months in federal prison
A California man caught driving across Kansas with 15 pounds of heroin in his vehicle was sentenced Monday to nearly four years in prison.
A federal judge in Kansas City, Kan., sentenced 21-year-old Juan Carlos Ahumada to 46 months in federal prison without parole.
Ahumada pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute heroin, and admitted that he had been hired to drive the drugs from California to Kansas City.
He was arrested in June 2014 after a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped him on Interstate 70 in Waubansee County. The heroin was found in a hidden compartment in his vehicle.
