A man was found shot to death Friday afternoon at a hotel near 113th Street and Colorado Avenue in south Kansas City, according to police.
Kansas City police were called to a shooting shortly after 5 p.m. at the Value Place hotel at 11301 Colorado Ave. A man found shot there was declared dead by members of the Kansas City Fire Department.
Members of the local chapter of Mothers in Charge, an anti-violence group, arrived at the scene to comfort family members of the victim. Earlier in the day, the group had participated in a vigil as part of a national day of remembrance for murder victims.
Friday’s shooting was the 73rd homicide in Kansas City this year, adding to an increase over 2014 after steady declines in recent years.
