Kansas City man is charged with abusing his infant daughter
The father of a Kansas City infant hospitalized earlier this week with multiple broken bones has been charged with child abuse.
Juan C. Ferez, also known as Juan Ferez-Lira, is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with two counts of child abuse and two counts of first-degree domestic assault. His bond is set at $250,000.
According to court documents, Ferez, 39, denied hurting his daughter, who was born in August.
Police were called after the baby’s mother took the girl to the hospital Sunday and doctors found that she had suffered fractures of both arms, both legs, a shoulder and a rib. Doctors said the fractures were in various states of healing, indicating that the injuries occurred at different times.
In his statement to police, Ferez said that the day before the girl was taken to the hospital, her 2-year-old sibling fell on her while she was in a swing. He also said that the baby was passed around and handled by numerous people at family gatherings, according to court documents.
