Shoplifter shoots way through locked door at KC gas station

A man caught shoplifting at a Kansas City gas station Sunday night shot his way out the door an employee had locked to keep him from leaving.

The employee was not injured in the incident that occurred just after 9 p.m. Sunday at 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue.

The store clerk told Kansas City police that man came into the business and bought several items. But when the clerk saw him trying to steal other things, he locked the doors.

The shoplifter then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the clerk before firing shots into the door, causing the glass to shatter. He was last seen running away toward the southeast.

A detailed suspect description was not available.
