Prosecutors file charges in three Kansas City murder cases, including death of 5-year-old boy
Jackson County prosecutors filed murder charges Friday in three separate killings, including the death earlier this month of a 5-year-old boy.
Prosecutors upgraded charges against Lisa Marie Hall, 23, to include a second-degree murder count in the Sept. 5 shooting death of her 5-year-old son.
A bullet struck him in the head inside a home in the 400 block of North Elmwood Avenue.
Prosecutors previously charged Hall with unlawful use of a firearm and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to court records:
At first, Hall blamed the shooting on an intruder. Her boyfriend initially told investigators that the shooting happened during a confrontation with another man in a bedroom.
After another witness said that Hall and the boyfriend had been the only adults in the bedroom, investigators attempted to interview Hall again. She refused to talk. But the boyfriend told authorities that he had lied, and that he and Hall had been arguing in the bedroom when Hall pulled a handgun from her waistband and fired. Hall’s son, who had been standing next to the boyfriend, fell to the floor, he said.
Prosecutors, who initially had requested bond be set at $150,000, asked Friday that bond for Hall be raised to $200,000.
In a second case, prosecutors charged a Kansas City man with second-degree murder in a death early Thursday at Independence and Myrtle avenues.
Police dispatched at 12:41 a.m. on a shooting call found the victim, Tony Stark, 44, of Kansas City on a sidewalk.
Prosecutors alleged that Shawn A. Bell, 39, shot him five or six times.
According to court records, homicide detectives retrieved surveillance video that shows Bell standing next to a truck’s passenger door. The video shows the apparent muzzle flash of a gun being fired.
Stark is seen running from the truck while Bell walks away and appears to place an object in the front of his pants.
In a third case, prosecutors charged Dominique A. Lindsey, 23, with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Ewon Wright, 56, after an argument. Wright, who was shot on July 14, died Aug.1.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker praised witnesses who came forward with information in all three cases.
“Every day we see good citizens step forward to do the right thing,” she said in a statement.
