A Johnson County massage therapist has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Shawnee earlier this year.

Freddy Perez-Cartagena, 47, of Olathe, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

According to court documents, the alleged sexual assault occurred Aug. 13. The victim was “overcome by force or fear,” according to the documents.

The Johnson County district attorney’s office said the victim reported she was sexually assaulted at Massage Serenity, 10729 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee, by an employee who identified himself as “Erik.”

Perez-Cartagena was released from custody later Tuesday after posting a $100,000 bond. His first appearance in Johnson County District Court is scheduled for Nov. 13.

Perez-Cartagena was charged in 2007 in Johnson County with three misdemeanor counts of sexual battery, according to court records.

He later pleaded guilty to amended charges of battery and was placed on probation. He was required to register as a sex offender until his probation was completed in 2010.
