KC man charged in Thursday morning shooting
A Kansas City man has been charged in the Thursday morning fatal shooting of a man who ran into a small grocery store after he had been shot.
Jaire M. Fortune-Rhodes, 18, faces second degree murder and armed criminal action charges. Prosecutors say he killed Cepeda Jackson Jr, also 18, of Kansas City.
Jackson died inside the Hot Spot market about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses reported hearing a rapid series of six to eight gunshots.
According to court documents, Fortune-Rhodes went to police headquarters Friday and asked to speak with detectives. He admitted to being at the scene of Jackson’s shooting. Police then showed him a still phone from the surveillance video of the shooting.
Fortune-Rhodes later admitted to shooting Jackson, documents show.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $500,000 cash.
