Photo shows family car struck by 13 bullets in attack on I-49 in Cass County
Authorities have released a photo showing a car that was struck by at least 13 bullets as it carried a Raymore family home from a Labor Day weekend gathering.
The father and a 2-year-old daughter were hit in what authorities were told was an unprovoked attack. The victims were reported to be hospitalized in stable condition. The mother and another child were also in the car.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Monday on northbound Interstate 49 just south of Belton.
During the initial investigation, deputies found broken glass on the roadway. A subsequent search of the area with canine units found spent shell casings believed to be evidence. Investigators processed the victim’s car and determined the vehicle was struck at least 13 times by shots from a vehicle as it drove alongside.
Evidence has been sent to an area crime lab for testing.
Investigators ask anyone with information or who may have been driving on I-49 between Peculiar and Belton about the time of the attack to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 816-380-5200.
