Independence man pleads guilty in 2012 home invasion that killed three and injured child

A 36-year-old Independence man pleaded guilty Thursday to federal conspiracy charges in the shooting deaths of three people during a drug-related home invasion in 2012.

Kevin M. Finley, also known as “Tubbs,” was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and two counts of using a firearm in a drug trafficking crime. A 12-year-old was wounded during the robbery.

According to a plea agreement with prosecutors, Finley would be sentenced to 27 years in federal prison without parole.

Finley admitted that he and others planned to steal 3 pounds of methamphetamine by robbing the home of Martin Dominguez-Gregorio in Independence. During the robbery early Nov. 16, 2012, Dominguez-Gregorio; his girlfriend, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez-Corona; and her son, Antonio Hernandez, were killed. Maria Hernandez’s then-12-year-old son was wounded.

Finley and an accomplice tied up and beat two people at the house and demanded drugs and money, which the victims denied having. A motorcycle and a TV were removed from the residence and loaded into the back of a truck driven by one of the assailants.

Raul Soto, also known as “Choch,” 24, of Kansas City, Kan., was also convicted in the case and sentenced to 27 years in prison. Two others have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.
