Shooter wounds two members of family driving on a Cass County highway
A drive-by highway shooting wounded two members of a family of four in their car early Monday on Interstate 49, south of Belton, according to the Cass County sheriff’s office.
Deputies were called to Research Belton Hospital about 12:30 a.m. on the report of a shooting. They met with the driver of a vehicle, who told them that while she was heading north on I-49 someone pulled alongside and fired several rounds into her vehicle.
The woman’s husband and a 2-year-old child were struck. They were in serious but stable condition Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman and a second child were not injured, and the woman was able to drive their car to the hospital.
The sheriff’s office said it did not have any information about a suspect or a motive for the shooting. The office said the car driven by the shooter was described as being dark and dirty-looking.
