Attempted murder charge is filed in shooting of Merriam store clerk

Johnson County prosecutors charged an Overland Park man Friday with the attempted murder of a Merriam convenience store clerk during a Wednesday morning robbery.

Javon D. Mills, 18, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and felony theft. His bond was set at $500,000.

A robber shot the clerk in the face with a shotgun about 2 a.m. Wednesday inside the 7-Eleven in the 6800 block of Antioch Road. Though seriously injured, the clerk is expected to survive.

According to court records, Mills lives in an apartment on the same block as the store.

He is accused of stealing the shotgun he allegedly used in the shooting, according to court documents.
