Former IRS employee sentenced in ID theft case

A Kansas City federal judge sentenced a former IRS employee Monday to two years in prison for conspiring to steal taxpayers’ identities.

Taylor S. Knight, 33, admitted in July that she abused her position with the agency by accessing information on three people as part of a conspiracy to steal identity information. She and others used the information to induce the IRS to issue fraudulent tax refunds, prosecutors said.

The judge also ordered Knight to pay $5,000 in restitution to the government.
