Police investigated a home invasion before dawn Thursday in Independence that left one person shot and in critical condition.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. near East 20th Street and South Scott Avenue, where two or three men entered a home and demanded money. One of the people at the house was shot and taken to a hospital.

The assailants fled the scene before police arrived.

Independence police asked anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
