Shots fired at KCK gas station as man seeks to reclaim stolen vehicle

Police responded to a shooting at a Kansas City, Kan., gas station on Tuesday after a man tried to reclaim his stolen pickup truck at gunpoint, authorities said.

The shooting occurred just after noon in the 4400 block of Shawnee Drive, when a man spotted what he believed was his stolen Chevy pickup truck being filled with gas.

Armed with a handgun, he confronted the driver and “attempted to effect a citizen’s arrest,” police said. But other people at the gas station intervened and the man fired shots before police arrived. No gunshot injuries were reported.

Police took one person into custody while the case was investigated.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
