Police say suspicious death of Kansas City man is a homicide

Kansas City police said Monday they are investigating the suspicious death of a 61-year-old man found inside a burning Northeast area home as a homicide.

Authorities have not said how William P. Simmons died.

Fire crews responded to the residential fire in the 300 block of Oakley Avenue on Aug. 23. After putting out the flames, which were contained to a bedroom, firefighters found Simmons’ body.

No arrests have been made. Investigators are looking for a black 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, Limited Sport.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).
