Independence police arrested 25 people Wednesday after city health inspectors swept through two motels and ordered one of them closed for code violations.

Authorities were sent to the Budget Inn Motel, 9900 E. U.S. 40, and the Sports Stadium Inn Motel, 9803 E. U.S. 40, after receiving complaints of criminal activity at the motels.

The Budget Inn was closed for miscellaneous code violations, police said.

The arrests were made while local and county authorities conducted “knocks and talks” at each location.

Police issued 52 warrants. The felony and misdemeanor arrests included those accused of drug activity and one person who gave authorities false information.

Other agencies that took part in the sweeps included the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Sugar Creek Police Department, Independence Health Department, Jackson County Drug Abatement Response Team, Independence Fire Department and Jackson County Drug Task Force.
