Vehicle sought in carjacking wrecks after police chase

A police pursuit of a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking in East Kansas City Tuesday night ended in a wreck near Grand Boulevard and River Front Road, near the Heart of America Bridge, police said.

The vehicle had been reported stolen at gunpoint earlier Tuesday. The driver led police on a chase through downtown, at times driving with the headlights off.

The vehicle crashed near the Heart of America Bridge shortly before 9 p.m. The driver was transported to a hospital.
