A former North Kansas City Schools teacher has been accused of rape.

Samuel D. Waltemath, 31, is charged with first-degree statutory rape and first-degree child molestation.

According to court documents, Waltemath is accused of having sexual intercourse with a child less than 14 years old this spring. The alleged crimes occurred on private property, according to a prosecutor’s office spokesman.

Waltemath resigned from North Kansas City Schools for “reasons unrelated to these allegations,” said Michelle Cronk, a school district spokeswoman. Waltemath has not been employed by the district since May 1, she said Friday.

“The district cooperates fully with all investigations and works to ensure all matters are appropriately resolved,” Cronk said.

Bond has been set at $250,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at the Clay County Courthouse in Liberty.
