One man dead after a shooting inside a Kansas City gas station
One man is dead after a shooting inside a Kansas City gas station on Wednesday afternoon.
Kansas City police responded to reports about a shooting at 4:15 p.m. that took place inside the Xpress Mart gas station at 4341 Paseo Blvd. When they arrived, they found the victim, who had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Two people of interest were taken into custody at the scene. Police believe there was a verbal altercation between multiple people inside the store which led to shots being fired.
Police are unsure if the victim was a customer or an employee, and it is unknown what the relationship is between the parties involved.
This is the second deadly shooting that took place inside a Kansas City gas station in under a week. On June 6., two men were killed inside a QuikTrip on Westport Road.
This death marks the 58th homicide in Kansas City in 2026, compared to 71 at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
The incident takes place one day before the FIFA Fan Fest opens to the public. KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino said the incident is “disheartening,” but says it doesn’t change the safety measures in place for the World Cup in KC.
“We have a lot of outside agencies helping us, we have federal partners helping us. This unfortunate incident does not change how we move forward with keeping the community safe,” DiMartino said. “The safety at the events, whether at the stadium, whether at Fan Fest or any of the march, is absolutely paramount.”
Police urge anyone with information to call KCPD detectives at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted to the TIPS hotline.
