Liberty police are investigating a break-in at a trading-card store in which investigators said high-end and rare sports cards were stolen early Monday morning.

Police said the break-in happened at The Warehouse, at 2101 Kara Court.

“At this time, the owner is still working to determine the full extent of the stolen items,” Liberty police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

“Detectives believe that high-end and rare baseball, football, and soccer trading cards were taken during the burglary.”

Police asked local collectors, hobby shops, card dealers and community members to be alert for anyone attempting to sell rare or high-value trading cards under suspicious circumstances and asked the public to contact investigators with any relevant information.

Anyone with information for police can call the department directly at 816-439-4730 or can call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS.

Owner Mike Leatherman posted on Facebook on Monday evening that he had left his store around 4 a.m. after he had worked late to get the shop ready for a sale. He said about 10-20 minutes later, the store was broken into and robbed.

“Liberty’s finest officers were great and are on the case and that’s about what we know,” he wrote. “We will update when we know we can open, but right now will be closed tomorrow for sure! Thanks for all the texts and messages, truly appreciate it!”

“Ps: For the 1 Star Google review we got today for being closed,” he continued, “I have neither the time or the crayons to explain what happened today….”
