Man pleads guilty to rape, home invasion in Overland Park in 2024

A man pleaded guilty in Johnson County court on May 20 to assaulting and stealing from an individual inside an Overland Park home in 2024.

Gabriel Hernandez pleaded guilty on May 20 to rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated burglary, theft and aggravated kidnapping, according to a Johnson County court document.

At 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2024, Hernandez assaulted and stole from an individual in a home near West 97th Circle and Reader Drive in Overland Park. The victim didn’t know Hernandez.

The man has previously been convicted of attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl in Bronx, New York, in 2006, according to court records.

He is being held in Johnson County’s New Century Adult Detention Center, according to the jail’s inmate listing. Hernandez is set to appear for a sentencing hearing on July 27.
