A Parsons, Kansas, man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Wednesday in the 2023 fatal shooting of his live-in girlfriend in their apartment in Kansas City’s Kirkside neighborhood.

Jaylen McDaniel, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to a Jackson County plea agreement.

Officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the 11500 block of Food Lane around 8 a.m. on March 13, 2023, on reports of a shooting.

There, investigators found McDaniel’s 29-year-old girlfriend, Trianna Tisdale, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A juvenile witness told detectives the couple were arguing when McDaniel struck her in the face, according to court documents. When Tisdale said she was calling 911, McDaniel shot her with a pistol.

Tisdale’s keys were removed from her wrist after she was shot, and McDaniel fled in her Chevy Impala. The day after she was killed, Tisdale’s car was found abandoned at 76th Street and Troost Avenue.

Inside, investigators found McDaniel’s driver’s license, a pair of shoes and a red jacket.
