A Cass County man was charged Monday in Kansas City, accused of possessing 84 pounds of methamphetamine, according to a Monday news release from the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

The U.S. District Court in Kansas City filed a criminal complaint against Russell D. Kircher, 41 of Cleveland, Missouri, for one count of possession with intent to distribute meth, according to the release.

Investigators inside a UPS center found a package shipped from Los Angeles to Cleveland, Missouri that was “consistent with attempted concealment of illegal drugs,” according to a May 4 affidavit. The investigators were members of the Missouri Western Interdiction and Narcotics Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration Kansas City Interdiction Task Force.

Inside was an orange FIFA Home Depot bucket filled with 22 pounds of meth, prosecutors said. On May 5, an undercover investigator delivered the package to Kircher’s Cass County property and arrested Kircher, who had 2.24 grams of meth and a glass pipe on him, according to the release.

On the property, officials allegedly found a buried plastic tote buried 6 to 8 inches underground.

Inside was almost 63 pounds of meth, separated into 27 packages, court documents say.
