Teen facing murder charge for alleged role in fatal KCK shooting of 15-year-old
The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a teenager accused of fatally shooting a 15-year-old in Kansas City, Kansas, on May 1.
According to a news release from Officer Tykeasha Berry, a spokesperson for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, a 17-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of felony interference with law enforcement in connection to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Zy’Aer Hamilton.
The release did not identify the 17-year-old.
Officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department were called to a residence in the 2800 block of Parallel Parkway just after 6 p.m. May 1 on reports of a shooting, Berry said in a previous news release.
There, they found Hamilton, who had gunshot wounds, inside the home, Berry said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hamilton’s death marked the fifth homicide in KCK in 2026, according to data tracked by The Star. He was the second teenager fatally shot in the city this year. Jai Barnes, 17, was fatally shot at an apartment complex in the 7400 block of Armstrong Avenue on Feb. 10.
