2 injured in late-night shooting on I-70 east of downtown Kansas City

Two people were injured in a shooting late Thursday on Interstate 70 east of downtown Kansas City, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to shooting shortly before 10 p.m. on I-70 near Lister Avenue, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.

There, officers found two victims with gunshot wounds. They were taken to a hospital for treatment and were listed in stable condition, Becchina said.

The victims told police that before the shooting, they had been in an altercation with some others in another city. The victims said they were followed to the area of East 23rd Street and I-70, where they were fired upon and struck by gunfire, Becchina said.

Officers later found the vehicle that is believed to have been involved in the shooting and arrested multiple people, Becchina said.
