A former Lee’s Summit West High School math teacher was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison Wednesday for distributing child pornography.

Seth Brummond, 39, of Greenwood, Missouri, pleaded guilty Aug. 27 to distribution of child pornography, according to a federal sentencing document.

After Brummond’s 12-year prison sentence, he will be required to serve supervised release for 10 years, according to a news release from Candice Jamoles, a public affairs specialist for U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price.

The news release said Brummond shared over 60 videos depicting child pornography using Kik, a messaging app, between September and December 2024.

Brummond was arrested during a traffic stop in Lee’s Summit on Dec. 19, 2024, according to an affidavit in support of the charges against him.

Officers located child pornography on Brummond’s cellphone, according to the news release. In an interview with investigators, Brummond admitted to using the app to share child pornography.

Before joining the Lee’s Summit School District, Brummond taught math in the Belton and Van-Far school districts, according to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
