A Belton man was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday after bringing a gun to classes at the Scott Educational Center in October.

Cameron Kopfer, 18, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon on March 31, according to a Cass County court document.

Administrators at the Scott Educational Center, at 310 South Scott Ave., reported that Kopfer brought a weapon to the school just before 2 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2025, according to a probable cause statement filed in support of Kopfer’s arrest.

A student notified administrators that Kopfer had shown them a handgun in his backpack during class the day prior, the statement said. Kopfer told the student he brought the gun to school “frequently.”

Kopfer was arrested outside the school around 4 p.m., according to the probable cause statement. School officials found a loaded handgun in Kopfer’s backpack.
