Shooting at Independence apartment complex leaves man in critical condition

A man is in critical condition Wednesday evening following a shooting at an apartment complex in Independence.

Officers with the Independence Police Department were called to the Hawthorne Apartments, in the 400 block of Concord Circle, around 7 p.m. on reports of a shooting, Detective Jack Taylor, a spokesperson for the department, said in a news release.

First responders found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot at the apartment complex, Taylor said. He was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition Wednesday evening.

A person of interest was found near the parking lot and taken into custody, Taylor said.

The shooting is under investigation as detectives work to determine what led up to the incident, Taylor said.
