One dead after shooting in Kansas City; detectives seek public’s help

One man is dead after a shooting in Kansas City Sunday, according to police.

Police responded around noon to the area of 27th Street and Troost Avenue on a reported shooting where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The victim was taken to a hospital but was declared dead shortly after. No one has been taken into custody, but detectives are working to determine what led up to the incident, according to DiMartino.

Police have not released the name or age of the victim.

Investigators and crime scene personnel are canvassing the area for witnesses, surveillance footage and other evidence. Anyone with any information is asked to contact homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

This marks the 32nd homicide this year in Kansas City, compared to 42 this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star which includes police shootings.
